What is Free Agent Writers
?

Free Agent Writers is a place for unrepresented writers of WGA-Registered and U.S. Copyright Office-Registered screenplays, who also have IMDb credit, to submit their scripts for review and possible inclusion in the online script library that's available to credentialed producers.

What if I don't register my script?

Unregistered scripts are not opened and are immediately discarded. We only work with screenwriters who work professionally and register/protect their work at both the WGA and the U.S. Copyright office.

Who started the Free Agent Writers?

This is a site created by screenwriters for screenwriters. Screenplay readers, those who review the scripts, are four award-winning screenwriters and filmmakers who have had films screened at U.S. film festivals.

Can anyone get a screenplay in the library?

No. All work in the online library is curated.

Why do you require IMDb credit?

As readers with limited time available, we expect we will maximize the quality of scripts coming in if we screen out some of the writers who are so new that they have no filmmaking experience at all. This rule may be waived in the future but for now, we're requiring it.

How much does it cost to submit a screenplay?

There is no cost to submit a screenplay. Screenwriters are tired of money-grabbing services, and we are too. The only charge is if the writer requests story notes ($100), which is completely optional and its purchase has no effect whatsoever on the script's inclusion in the library.

Is there a cost for producers and production companies to read a script?

Nope, our goal is to connect quality material with qualified people. Producers are required to provide industry credentials before receiving screenplays.

In what form does a producer receive a script?

They will receive the screenplays either as a PDF or we will print and ship a paper screenplay at our own cost if that is the way the producer prefers.

How does Free Agent Writers make money?

Free Agent Writers takes a 20% commission on all script or option sales. By submitting a screenplay, upon acceptance into the library and if we foster a sale or option, the 20% commission is payable.
